Kindergarten Google Search Activity

I initially set out to create an evaluation tool for determining accuracy of sources, for students searching the web.  However, since I would be working with Kindergarten students, I decided to focus on internet safety as a main goal.  I generated the hand out below, creating an acronym for ease of memory.  These four simple rules are meant to form a basis for the students to stay safe while doing a simple internet search.  This was intended to be a handout with a brief verbal description given to the students, to precede the search engine lesson.

Following the discussion on internet safety.  Students would be instructed on how to go the Google website.  If the number of computers is limited, this is a lesson that could be done with partners. This lesson is meant to be part of a unit on the Five Senses.  Students will be given the suggestion of entering "The Five Senses Game" into the search window.  Having tried this myself, I already know that this should generate a list of different websites all with interactive games for the students to explore.  Not only will this give students a chance to learn about the five senses, it will also give them a chance to explore the internet.  This will include, accessing the google website, conducting a search, using back buttons, as well as sifting through websites to find a preferred one.

Below is a super simple handout that even the youngest of students can use to record the web address of a website that they find in the above search activity.  They can fill in multiple handouts and create a book of websites that they can revisit at a later date.  In addition, the simple evaluation tool of smiley faces allows the Kindergarten student to record what they thought of the particular websites.
